U.S. senator to discuss future of tax-exempt status |
Free to be Faithful webinar — 9 a.m. Central time, Sept. 15
Speaker: Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah)
|
Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) isn’t afraid of a challenge. That’s why
he’s recently introduced legislation that has generated plenty of
discussion and debate: a bill that would prevent any federal agency from
denying tax exemption to an individual, association, business or church
based on the belief that marriage is a union between one man and one
woman.
You’re invited to join Senator Lee at 9 a.m. Central time on Sept.
15, 2015, for a live webinar. The senator and his staff members, Leslie
Ford and Conn Carroll, will discuss this legislation — titled the First Amendment Defense Act — and take questions from you about tax-exempt status and its future.
Senator Lee previously served as law clerk with future Supreme Court
Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third
Circuit, and he worked for several years as an attorney, specializing in
Supreme Court litigation. Now Lee serves on the Judiciary Committee and
is chairman of the Senate Steering Committee.
Are you and others in your congregation concerned that the IRS could
strip your church of its tax-exempt status? Then please register for the
free webinar by completing the online registration form, emailing infocenter@lcms.org or calling 888-THE LCMS (843-5267).
Spaces for live participation in the call and webinar are limited, so
please register now to join Senator Lee and your fellow Lutherans in a
helpful conversation about the future of tax-exempt status for churches
and individuals.
Can’t make it? A recorded version will be made available online shortly after the call at lcms.org/freetobefaithful.
