Harrison calls Esget ‘both humble and an excellent theologian’
|
The Rev. Dr. Robert Kuhn, sixth vice-president of The Lutheran
Church—Missouri Synod, has for health reasons resigned this office. In
the matter of the appointment of a man to replace him, Synod Bylaw
3.3.2.4 notes that “any vacancy in a regional vice-presidency shall be
filled by appointment of the President in consultation with the district
presidents within that region.”
LCMS President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison consulted with and
received both public and private counsel from the brothers on the
Council of Presidents from the East-Southeast Region and is grateful for
their honest and forthright opinions in this process. There are, of
course, many qualified men in the East-Southeast Region who would be
able to serve faithfully and well.
Having prayerfully considered many options, Harrison appointed the
Rev. Christopher Esget of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Alexandria, Va., as
sixth vice-president of the Synod. Esget serves as pastor in a parish
that includes high-profile and “high-powered” individuals who work on
Capitol Hill.
“He is deeply involved in the pro-life movement. His church and
school are growing tremendously. He is both humble and an excellent
theologian respected by many,” Harrison said.
“Pastor Esget brings to the table great parish experience, and I am
confident he will give reasoned advice and positive counsel,” Harrison
said. “He is a parish pastor who will bring thoughtful theological input
to any work involving the Praesidium. He has served most of his
ministry in the East-Southeast Region and will serve faithfully in the
office of sixth vice-president as well.”
