Today, a historic shift is occurring. Christianity is moving away
from the Global North (primarily Europe and North America) to the
Global South (Africa, Asia and Latin America).
The June 2015 issue of the Journal of Lutheran Mission
reflects on the way in which the Holy Spirit has moved the Gospel from
place to place, working when and where it pleases God (John 3:8; AC V
2). Within these pages, readers will find papers presented at the LCMS
Mission Summit held in Orange County, Calif., Nov. 20–21, 2014. The
first day of the conference focused on the changing face of Christianity
in America, while the second day focused on the changes happening
internationally.
Please download the issue, and consider sharing individual articles with your congregation or in your social media circles. I also invite you to “like” the Journal of Lutheran Mission on Facebook, where Lutheran Christians around the world can continue the discussion started by this journal.
We have the sure and certain promises from our Lord that He works all
things for good and that the gates of hell will not prevail against the
Church (Rom. 8:28; Matt. 16:18). The changing face of global
Christianity is not to be feared, but rather to be embraced in the
confident hope that our Lord will work a blessing from it, both for the
Church and the world, as people everywhere come to hear and believe the
saving Gospel of Jesus.
