How Great Is God's Compassion?

Wednesday after Pentecost 24

The Lord be with you

"As a handful of sand thrown into the ocean, so are the sins of all flesh as compared with the mind of God. Just as a strongly flowing fountain is not blocked up by a handful of earth, so the compassion of the Creator is not overcome by the wickedness of His creatures."
St. Isaac of Syrian, 7th century

Blessings in Christ,
Pastor John Rickert

  1. What a great mental picture of the ease with which our sins are cast away in the atoning death of Christ; the penalty was heavy, but the lightness with which sins are now forgiven is awesome! It makes me think of the entire Christian life, even if it "feels" different: "My yoke is easy & my burden is light," because nothing is heavier than the weight of sin and subsequent death and hell.
