Okay, I know that the chances are small of anyone here in Spartanburg, SC, attending this due to the distance, nonetheless, if someone is going to be in IN anyway, this might be worthwhile. Also, if you are visiting this blog and actually live in the Fort Wayne area, you might be interested.

Ferguson, Baltimore, Oakland — whose community is next? Where is the church?
Join The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod for the “Stand Firm in the
City” Urban & Inner-City Mission Conference, Oct. 12-14, at
Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind. (CTSFW).
More information is available at ctsfw.edu/UrbanMinistryConference2015, and please call 260-452-2204 or email Leeanna.Rondot@ctsfw.edu with questions.
Among the topics to be addressed are:
+ Mission Field USA — Americans comprise the
third-largest population of unchurched people in the world. Urbanization
is accelerating this atrophy, as a gloomy economy drives more of the
population to live in impoverished urban areas. Compounding the problem,
many re-gentrified inner cities have become antagonistic to the church,
as “new urbanites” transform America’s major cities into bastions of
secularism. Despite these challenges, U.S. cities are some of our
greatest mission fields.
+ Inner cities are groaning — Ferguson, Baltimore
and Oakland could be any one of our major cities having the same issues –
fires in the street, rioting, looting and distrust stemming from
decades of broken promises. Poverty, crime, hopelessness and turmoil run
rampant. A common thread includes the need for strong communities and
families, quality education and health care, jobs, trust and
reconciliation. But what is most needed is the Gospel.
Theme verse — “And behold, I am sending the
promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are
clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49)
This conference is provided by LCMS Urban & Inner-City Mission and CTSFW. Visit lcms.org/citymission to learn more about this ministry. |
