This past Tuesday our Cub Scout Pack 1031 had their “Blue & Gold” ceremony. This is the culmination of the year, when the boys receive awards and move up to the next level in Cub Scouting. Our boys performed a puppet skit, completing their “showman” achievement as part of the evening’s proceedings. We also had a great potluck dinner. The following pictures were taken during the evening. I hope you enjoy them.

Cub Scouts' Spaghetti Dinner a Success

The Lord be with you

Yesterday the Cub Scouts of Pack 1031, sponsored by Lamb of God Lutheran Church, had a spaghetti dinner to raise needed funds for awards, adventures, and other activities. It was a great success, raising nearly $500.00. I received back 54 tickets, but we made noticeably more than what those 54 tickets represent so I suspect I didn’t get back all the tickets sold. We all had a good time. The food was great. The boys did a great job serving our guests. Thank you to everyone who helped! I hope you enjoy the following pictures.

Scout Sunday

Monday after Epiphany 4

The Lord be with you

This past Sunday was recognized at Lamb of God as “Scout Sunday.” The members of our Cub Scout Pack 1031, along with members of their families, joined us in worship. The boys received their “God and Me” medals, which they worked on for two months. This past Sunday was chosen as “Scout Sunday” because scouting started in the United States February 8, 1910, making this past Sunday the closest Sunday to the 100 anniversary of scouting in this country. One of our members took some pictures with their cell phone (so they aren’t all that sharp), and forwarded them on to me. The following pictures are from them.

Cubs Get Awards

The Lord be with you

Cub Scout Pack 1031 of Lamb of God Lutheran (LCMS) had their first advancement dinner and ceremony this evening. Aside from some great pizza, each of the boys received the awards they have earned and their pinewood derby cars. We are now on our Christmas break. The boys will meet again Tuesday, January 12, 2010. We have a fun second half in the works with trips to the Chapman Cultural Center, Walnut Grove Plantation, Cowpens Battlefield (which was canceled earlier this month due to weather), Lake Keowee Hydro Power Plant, the Cottonwood Trail, a spaghetti supper fund raiser, a car wash fund raiser, and advancements, advancements, advancements! How will we ever fit it all in? I don’t know, but we will sure try! I pray that all the boys and their families have a great Christmas break.

Today Lamb of God Lutheran’s (LCMS) Cub Pack 1031 visited the downtown Spartanburg Fire Station. They also got to raise and lower the American Flag outside the City administration building. Talk about a big flag poll! This activity works towards the boys’ citizenship award. The following pictures were taken on this outing.

Scout Pop Corn

Lamb of God’s Cub Scouts (Pack 1031) did a great job with their pop corn sales. Thank you to the church members who purchased some. Today Cub Master Scott Mullinax picked-up our first load and our members will be able to pick-up their orders Sunday. Our cubs will pick-up the orders they will be delivering at the Tuesday pack meeting.

Our order is a little short, but will be made-up from the extra that pack 53 (Gaffney) had to order. Scott will pick it up and have it here before the Tuesday pack meeting.

Cub Scout Family Campout

The Lord be with you

The Cub Scouts of Pack 1031 (Lamb of God Lutheran, LCMS) will be going on a Family Campout. Because we do not have a “Belue” trained leader yet, our boys will be going with Pack 53. They will be camping at White’s Hidden Valley Farm, Friday, November 6 – Saturday, November 7. The boys are to bring their own food and drinks.

Directions from First Baptist Church of Gaffney are available from Cub Master Scott Mullinax. The following directions are slightly different and assume you are heading north on 85

• Take the SC-18 exit, EXIT 96, towards Shelby




• Turn RIGHT onto SC-18/SHELBY HWY (AKA Union Hwy & Frederick St) and travel to Hwy. 105 – Wilkinsville Hwy (across from McDonalds and in front of Fred’s); make left onto Hwy. 105 Wilkinsville Hwy




• Follow Hwy. 105 to Peeler Creek Road (past Lake Cherokee entrance and Draytonville Elementary School is across the street on the left), make a right on to Peeler Creek Rd.




• Make immediate left from Peeler Creek Rd onto Pondfield Rd; follow to Hidden Valley Dr (past church on the right until you see junkyard); make right onto Hidden Valley Dr (a dirt road going through the yunkyard).




• Follow Hidden Valley Dr through junkyard down the hill to the white gate; go through the gate to the top of the hill and turn left through gate and go through the Pine trees until you reach the clearing; this is the campsite.

Radio, Racing, & Cub Scouts

Lamb of God’s (LCMS) Cub Scout pack 1031 visited ESPN1400 radio station today during the “Dropin’ the Hammer” program. hosted by Dale Wilkerson, Spartanburg’s only show devoted to local racing. Not only did the boys meet Dale, but also racing legend Bud Moore who has been key in NASCAR history, being involved from the very beginning, Zack Mitchell, who is only 13 years old, nicknamed “Kid Quick,” and races in Crate & super Late Model cars, and Chris Ferguson, a current NASCAR racer. Below are pictures taken today.

Our Cubs did $1,234.00 in popcorn sales! This is great, especially as it is their first ever Popcorn Sale! The money raised supports the national and regional scouting programs, as well as our local pack 1031.

Maybe you wanted to buy some popcorn, but time got away from you. Well good news! While the boys are no longer selling, the books do not close on the sale until this coming Sunday. So you can still order some. The prices are:

Scout Field Trip

Tuesday after Pentecost 20

The Lord be with you

This Saturday, October 24, Cub Scout Pack 1031 of Lamb of God Lutheran (LCMS) will be taking a field trip to radio station ESPN, 1400 AM. This is a sports radio station right here in Spartanburg. We will be visiting while the program “Droppin’ the Hammer with Dale Wilkerson” is being broadcast. We will meet at 10:30 in the church parking lot and travel together to the station. The program begins at 11:00 AM and runs for an hour. Droppin’ the Hammer is about auto racing and features guest drivers, NASCAR representatives, and more. The boys will not only learn about radio but also about this exciting sport.
